HALLE (SAALE), GERMANY-SEPTEMBER 24: Musician Siegfried von der Heide with his Gibson L50, The Jazzbox, 1934 Guitar. Gradually getting back into working following my leave of absence after my back injury and subsequent surgery. The portrait was to test out a new ‚constant‘ light I’ve acquired- Godox LED M150. Additionally Siggi was practically the first person to commission me, some 14 years ago, when I first moved to Germany to photograph his band at the time- so always good to meet up with him.

ALSFIELD, GERMANY-MAY 04: German Conceptual Artist Gunter Denning outside his artists studio in Alsfield-Elbenrod, Hesse in 2019. Demnig conceived and initiated the 'Stolperstein' art project in 1992. In his words it is:'An art project that commemorates the victims of National Socialism. Keeping alive the memory of all Jews, Roma and Sinti, Homosexuals, Dissidents ,Jehovah‘s Witnesses and victims of Euthanasia who were deported and exterminated.' Stolpersteine; literally "stumbling stone", is a sett-size, 10 by 10 centimetres (3.9 in × 3.9 in) concrete cube bearing a brass plate inscribed with the name and life dates of victims of Nazi extermination or persecution. The Stolpersteine project aims to commemorate individuals at exactly the last place of residency—or, sometimes, work—which was freely chosen by the person before he or she fell victim to the Nazi regime of the Third Reich. To date (2019) some 75.000 Stolpersteine have been laid making the Stolpersteine project the world's largest decentralized memorial. Demnig often cites the Talmud (the central text of Rabbinic Judaism and the primary source of Jewish religious law) stating clearly that "A person is only forgotten when his or her name is forgotten" (Photo by Craig Stennett/Getty Images)
